Pelekane Bay, Hawai‘i.
The Pelekane Bay is fed by streams from the Kohala Mountains. Because of the freshwater, this bay is an estuary. In the summer of 2009, the Pelekane Bay Restoration Project was awarded a large grant to help control the amount of soil that washes into the bay after a storm. One of the ways that the project will do this is by planting native plants. They hope to restore the delicate balance of abiotic and biotic factors in this estuary.
