Freshwater Ecosystem: an ecosystem in water with less than 0.5 parts per thousand of dissolved salts.
Hawaiian Translation: Kaiaola o ka wai (also term for aquatic water ecosytem)




Example

Lakes, ponds, rivers and streams are freshwater ecosystems. The Hanalei River on Kauai is a freshwater ecosystem that is home to the o’opu, a prized fish.
