Garbage is Golden

Have you ever built a campfire? When you build a campfire, you burn wood to make fire and heat, which can be used to roast hot dogs or marshmallows and to keep you warm. When you burn wood, you have used energy from biomass.

Biomass has been a source of energy as long as humans have been around. For thousands of years, people have burned wood to heat their homes and cook their food. Wood, crops, seaweed, animal waste, and trash can become an energy source. For example, ancient Hawaiians used rotten trees, dried leaves, kukui nut shells, and animal waste for heat.
