What is a WebQuest?

A WebQuest is a fascinating way to learn new things by using the World-Wide Web (WWW) as an instructional tool.

Why do a WebQuest?

A WebQuest challenges you to explore the world-wide web for information. They give you most, if not all, the links you will need to do your research on a topic you are learning in class.

What are the parts of a WebQuest?

A WebQuest has seven steps. These are:

1. introduction;
2. background information;
3. task;
4. process;
5. list of resources;
6. evaluation; and
7. reflection.

For each WebQuest, you will follow these seven steps, by clicking on icons, in the order listed to complete your activity.

What happens during each of these steps?

• Introduction: the introduction sets the stage for what lies ahead in the WebQuest.
• Background: the background section provides you important information.
• Task: the task explains specifically what you are going to do.
• Resources: these provide you with the WWW links you will be viewing to conduct your research.
• Process: this explains the steps you should follow to complete your task.
• Evaluation: provides you the criteria used to evaluate/assess your performance.
• Reflection: gives you questions to reflect upon in your Oblogs.

Now what?

Now that you have a general idea about what a WebQuest is, your job is to go out there and learn how to navigate through one. Have fun and enjoy questing the world-wide-web!
